five Off-Strip Properties to consider for Your Next Vegas Family Vacation

Vegas is more than the Las Vegas Strip - just ask any local! There are amazing hotels located throughout the Las Vegas valley, so we’ve picked 5 off-strip properties for you to consider for your next Vegas family vacation.

1. Golden Nugget – Downtown Las Vegas

This property is the epitome of classic, iconic Vegas. There are four different towers, offering something for every budget. The Spa Tower is an all-suites tower, perfect for families sharing a room, the Rush Tower is the newest and offers its own VIP check-in, and Carson Tower feels the most like home, and the Gold Tower is closest to the casino action.

The Golden Nugget has an amazing pool called The Tank. In the middle of the pool is a 200,000-gallon shark tank - there’s even a water slide that goes through the middle of The Tank!

The property has a casino, sports book, and poker room. Additional amenities on the property include a spa, salon, and lots of fun shops. There are also several restaurants that range from fast-food to fine dining, including Vic & Anthony’s a renowned steakhouse.

2. Red Rock Resort & Casino - Summerlin

Red Rock Resort & Casino is part of the Station Casinos group, and it’s definitely also a local favorite! It’s located in Summerlin at the base of the Red Rock Canyon, and you’ll love the recently renovated with high-end amenities.

You’ll also find many family-friendly activities inside the resort, like the bowling alley and the 16-screen Regal Stadium & IMAX Theater. There is also an on-site Kids Quest for kids aged 30 months to 12 years old, which means you can get some time to enjoy a meal out or do some gambling while your kids have their own supervised night out in the Kids Quest facility.

There are lots of restaurant options ranging from casual and quick service to fine dining. The Lucky Penny is open 24/7 and offers an amazing $5.99 Cheeseburger Special, perfect for everyone in the family! This property also has a casino, sports book, and poker room.

There are also several fun things to do within walking distance of Red Rock. The Golden Knights (NHL team) have their practice facility across the street that offers open skating hours. Next door to the practice facility is the Las Vegas Ballpark, home to minor league team The Aviators. There is also an extensive outdoor shopping complex called Downtown Summerlin right next door where you can do everything from shopping at the LEGO store to taking a family cooking class Sur La Table!

Red Rock no longer has a complimentary airport shuttle (despite what you may see on their website). So be sure to figure in the cost of renting a car or taking an Uber from the airport to this property. However, they do still have free parking, which is a huge plus!

3. Tahiti Village Resort & Spa - Las Vegas Blvd (South of the Strip)

This all-suite hotel consistently ranks as one of the top family-friendly properties in Las Vegas. The Polynesian-themed resort is an absolute oasis from the hustle and bustle of Las Vegas. You can choose between three different suite options:

  • The Moorea is 580 SF with a bedroom and a separate living room that includes a sleeper sofa.

  • The Bora Bora is 971 SF and includes a washer and dryer.

  • The Royal Tahitian is a whopping 1551 SF with 2 separate bedrooms and sleeps 8.

There are plenty of activities on the property for all ages! The Lazy River and Pool area are very popular, and unlike Lazy Rivers located at Strip properties, Tahiti Village provides complimentary tubes for use in the river. There are also several other free activities, including yoga, drum sessions, a Polynesian-inspired Night Market, and even a Luau!

If you decide to venture off-property, there is a FREE shuttle to the Las Vegas Strip. This is a huge benefit, especially if you aren’t planning to rent a car on your trip.

4. Green Valley Ranch - Henderson

Green Valley Ranch is part of Station Casinos. It’s located in Henderson, about six miles from Harry Reid International Airport.

The hotel has a large selection of rooms, from a 495 SF Deluxe room to suites with 700+ SF. Rooms include modern amenities, large safes, and high-speed WI-FI. Connector rooms are available upon request if you’re booking multiple rooms!

In addition to a casino and bingo, there are several activities for the entire family. There is a pool, a 10-screen Regal Stadium Seating Theater, an Arcade, and a Kids Quest. Just like over at Red Rock, kids aged 20 months to 12 years can enjoy supervised playtime while adults are free to move about the casino. This is a great opportunity for the adults to have a nice dinner or enjoy some gambling while the kids have a fun night too!

Be sure to check the event calendar for Lee’s Family Forum before your visit. Several minor league teams call the Forum home, and they also host kids entertainment shows and the Henderson Symphony Orchestra.

5. Sam’s Town - Boulder Strip

Sam’s Town is a Boyd Gaming property. It is located about 7 miles east of the Las Vegas Strip in the shadow of the Sunrise Mountains. Sam’s Town has over 600 rooms and offers AAA, Senior, and Military discounts.

Sam’s Town is its own destination. Like most hotels, it has its own casino, but the casino is not the star of this show. Inside Sam’s Town you’ll find Mystic Falls, an amazing indoor park! There is also a 56-lane bowling alley and an 18-screen Century Theater. There is also a seasonal pool, open from April – September.

There are several onsite restaurants, including a steakhouse and an ice cream parlor. Be sure to check out Crazy Corn, a fun snack shack specializing in traditional Mexican Crazy Corn.

If you like camping, Las Vegas KOA at Sam’s Town is a great option. There are 500 spaces across two parks.

If you want to visit Vegas but you’re not interested in staying on the Strip, you’ve got tons of great alternatives! Any one of these properties is sure to be a hit with your family on your next Vegas family vacation.
