Vegas Awaits! family friendly transportation options at Harry Reid International Airport in las Vegas

Great news – you’ve decided to bring your family to Las Vegas! Now that you’ve booked your airline tickets, what’s your plan to get you from the airport to the hotel? Here’s our guide for your best family friendly transportation options from Harry Reid International airport in Las Vegas.

Option 1: Taxi

Price Range: $$ | Website

For Las Vegas Strip properties, this may be your best option. There is a flat rate for transportation to the Strip starting around $20. However, there are three different Zones:

  • Zone 1 is the least expensive and includes the closest hotels: Delano; Excalibur, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, and Virgin.

  • Zone 2 includes Aria, Bellagio, Cosmo, Horseshoe, NYNY, Paris, Park, Planet Hollywood, Orleans, and Vdara.

  • All other properties located north of Flamingo up to the Strat are in Zone 3.

Keep in mind that the flat rate does not apply during “special” events and does not include a tip.

Most cabs are limited to five people, including children. It’s a state law, which means you will be turned away with more than 5 riders. Although taxis are exempt from car seat requirements, we highly recommend buckling in your child using your own car seat whenever possible.

Taxis are available on Level 1 in Terminal 1 on the east side of baggage claim. They are readily available during all hours the airport is open, but you may have to wait in line during busier times.

Although rare, there are some unscrupulous taxi drivers. When you get into the taxi, simply state your destination and request the “flat rate.” If there are any issues with the rate or your trip, take note of the cab license number and call the number posted in the cab.

The flat rate is for cash only. Credit cards incur additional fees. Try to have cash on hand for the cab to avoid the credit card surcharge.

Option 2: Rideshare – Uber/Lyft

Price Range: $$-$$$

This is a good option for downtown or non-strip properties. However, rates are subject to a lot of variables, including time of day, availability of drivers, and special events happening in town. It’s a good idea to have both apps and compare prices.

Uber and Lyft have options for larger vehicles, so this can be helpful if you have a larger family and/or a lot of luggage. The rideshare pickup area is about a 5–10-minute walk from the terminal once you get there and request your ride, you will be assigned a stall number to wait for pickup. It is very organized, so the process should be pretty smooth and easy to navigate, even if you have smaller children with you.

Unlike taxis, Uber and Lyft are not exempt from car seat requirements. They require you to have and install your own car seat for all riders under six.

Option 3: Limousine and private car service

Price Range: $$$-$$$$ | Website

Limos can really elevate your vacation experience! This can be a viable option for larger groups and/or those with a lot of luggage. A limousine can be reserved through your hotel or at the airport.

Like taxis and other public transportation, limousines are exempt from car seat requirements. However, we still strongly encourage you to buckle your children in with a car seat for any drive.

Reserve your limo in advance, this way the driver can meet you at baggage claim and help with your luggage.

Option 4: Hotel Shuttle

Price Range: Free!

Unfortunately, this is becoming pretty rare in Las Vegas. If your hotel offers this service, be sure to take advantage of it. Currently, no strip properties offer this service.

However, there are a few larger off-strip Las Vegas hotels who still offer a complimentary hotel shuttle: South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa, M Resort, Silverton Casino Lodge, Red Rock Resort, and Silver Seven Hotel & Casino. Be sure to verify the shuttle is still operational when booking your reservation.

There is a paid airport shuttle service available in Las Vegas. However, it is only a good value when traveling alone. Otherwise, it is cheaper and more efficient to book another suggested option.

Option 5: Rent a Car

Price Range: $$$-$$$$

If you are only renting a car to travel to and from the hotel, this is not a good option. However, if you plan to take some day trips or travel around the city of Las Vegas, this can be a great option for families. Most major car rental companies have booths at the Las Vegas airport.

After collecting your luggage, you will need to proceed to the shuttle bus pick-up area. Here you will find your correct car rental shuttle bus and take it to the car rental location. The minimum age to rent a car in Las Vegas is 21, but keep in mind that some companies may require renters to be 25 or may charge a surcharge for those under 25.

If you prefer not to travel with your car seat, many car rental agencies also have car seats available for rental with your vehicle.

Check with your hotel before renting a car for parking fees. Most hotels in Las Vegas charge for parking where the fees can be between $25-$50 per day or more during special events.

Contrary to what you may have seen online or heard from an AI chat assistant, the Las Vegas Monorail and the Las Vegas Loop do not go to the Las Vegas airport! Additionally, it’s not feasible to walk from the airport to any hotel location. But there are still several valid options for airport transportation, so be sure to make a plan to get you where you need to go on your next Vegas family vacation!
