5 Family Friendly Things to do at fashion show mall in Las Vegas

Fashion Show Mall is located on the Las Vegas Strip, across from Wynn Las Vegas. The mall opened in 1981 and continues to be a premier shopping destination with more than 250 retail stores, including Build-A-Bear, the LEGO Store, and 30 restaurants. Here are five family-friendly things to do on your next visit there!

1. Fantasy Lab - Colors of Mexico

Price Range: $ | Website

Nevada is forever linked with Mexico as it was originally part of the Territory of Mexico. Nevada eventually became part of the United States after the Mexican American War. This new display at Fashion Show Mall highlights Mexican culture. Here you’ll find 20,000 square feet of family fun at Colors of Mexico, featuring 7 interactive experiences. You can visit a Mexican art market, a life-size diorama, the Tree of Life, a Loteria Wall, a Firefly Forest experience, a Kaleidoscope, and the Colors experience. You’ll also find authentic Mexican cuisine and fun souvenirs!

The entry fee for this exhibit is $15. However, the entire entry fee becomes a credit toward food or souvenirs. This is a great place to grab lunch with kid’s meals starting at $10.

2. Capital One Café

Price Range: $ | Website

It may seem like an odd suggestion, but the Capital One Café is just a great place to sit and unwind. If you’re looking for a place to take a break, they offer free WiFi and cozy chairs. You can also enjoy beverages and food from the Verve Coffee Roasters, and Capital One cardholders receive 50% off all drinks!

The café is also a great place to use the ATM. There is no fee for Capital One customers and non-customers are only charged a three dollar fee (which is super low compared to other ATMs on the Strip!)

3. Art Walk

Price Range: Free | Website

Las Vegas loves to intersperse art throughout the city, so you don’t have to visit a museum to enjoy art. Fashion Show Mall is no exception - it offers a fun self-guided art walk on Level 1.

The tour includes five large-scale installations:

  • Be Brave: Created by Matthew Hoffman, this piece is located in the Neiman Marcus court. Be sure to look for the inspirational message from the artist embedded in the sculpture.

  • Be Kind to Bugs: Created in partnership with local artist Michael Dodson and curator Patrick Duffy, it represents the natural beauty of Nevada and is pictured above.

  • Colors that Speak to a United City: Created in partnership with another local artist Tanya “Miscre8” Watler and curator Patrick Duffy, this piece features 73 unique colors representing hope and unity.

  • Heartfulness: Designed by San Francisco Bay Area artist Katy Boynton, this incredible work is dedicated to the victims of the Route 91 Harvest music tragedy. This piece is usually located on Level One; however, it is often displayed at local music festivals including Life is Beautiful.

  • Time to Dream: This mural, located outside of the Fantasy Lab, features vivid colors, surreal imagery, and augmented reality.

For more information about each piece, be sure to stop by guest services to pick up an informational brochure.

In addition to the permanent collection, the mall hosts rotating collections in the Great Hall. These exhibits tend to be interactive. A recent installation included large scale dominos where visitors could create musical numbers with falling dominos.

4. Apple Store Technology Classes

Price Range: Free! | Website

The Apple store is always fun to visit to check out new technology. However, did you know they also offer technology classes for both kids and adults?

Kids can learn how to make their own emoji, create a theme song, or even design their own comic. Don’t worry if you didn’t bring your devices, as devices are provided for the classes.

While you are at the store, you can also charge your devices or use the free Wi-Fi. They can also clean your screen for free too at the Genius Bar!

5. Hello Kitty Café

Price Range: $ | Website

This Hello Kitty Café is tucked in-between the escalators on the first floor near Saks Fifth Avenue. As you enter the space, you’ll be feline fine in this adorable pink oasis. This is a great place to grab a drink or a quick snack. The drinks are served in branded cups, with pink straws and kitty-adorned stirrers. The available snacks include pastries, donuts, cookies, and soft serve ice cream. You’ll also find t-shirts, hoodies, pins, socks, squishes, and many branded items with the location name.

They do have seating here, but it fills up fast. Best to have one person grab the table while the others order to be sure you will have a place to sit and enjoy your treats.
